William Packard, 80 of Winter Way, Enfield, husband of Ida (Boyd) Packard, died Friday, (April 26, 2002) after a courageous battle with Parkinson Disease. Born in Lapinlahti, Finland, he had been a resident of the Enfield community for the past 43 years. Bill was employed as an engineer with Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford for 30 years, retiring 18 years ago. Previously, he had worked as a tool designer for Boeing in Seattle, WA. He was also an Army Air Corp veteran, serving in Guam during World War II.
An avid outdoorsman he was a biking enthusiast, who also enjoyed hiking and canoeing, as well as hunting and fishing.
In addition to Ida, his wife of 49 years, Bill is survived by his four children, Kenneth Packard and his wife, Jo-Ann, and their children, Kristin and Michael, all of Bell Air, MD, Janet Frei and her son, Christopher, Mark Packard, and Lori Colea and her husband, Patrick, and their children, Tony and Andrea all of Enfield; and his sister, Ina Berg of Lauriun, MI. He was predeceased by his brother, Edwin Waisanen.
Private services will be at his family's convenience. Bill's family has suggested that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial donations to the Felician Adult Day Care, 1333 Enfield St., Enfield CT 06082, the American Parkinson Disease Assn., 1250 Hyland Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10305 or the American Heart Assn., 2550 US Rt. 1, North Brun-swich, Ni 08902. Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. is assisting Bill's family with the arrangements. |
