Marie Mathison Davenport, Salinas resident
Marie Gladys Mathison Davenport of Salinas died Monday at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was 74.
Mrs. Davenport was a native of Grover City, moved to the Monterey Peninsula at the age of 2 and lived in Monterey and Pacific Grove before moving to Salinas in 1967. She had been a legal secretary in Pacific Grove and Seaside for 35 years and then a homemaker for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Davenport was a graduate of Pacific Grove High School and attended the University of California, Berkeley. She was an animal lover and supporter of the Society For Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Monterey County.
Mrs. Davenport is survived by her son, W. A. "Jack" Davenport III of Salinas and Bakersfield; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at The Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove. Burial will follow at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove. Memorials may be made to SPCA of Monterey County, P.O. Box 3058, Monterey 93942 or the donor's favorite charity. |
