Leslie Ommun Hanson (1917-2001) - Obituary (The Boston Globe, Boston, Massachusetts, Thursday, August 09, 2001) Leslie Hanson, 84; fought in WWII
WATERTOWN - Leslie O. Hanson, 84, of Watertown, an Army veteran of World War II, died July 28 at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Watertown.
Born in Starks, Maine, Mr. Hanson started his career in 1942, working for the Watertown Arsenal. He then worked as a plumber’s apprentice for five years to earn his journeymen’s license.
Following his training, he was employed for more than 55 years as a union plumber for the Plumber’s Local No. 12.
During World War II, he was a member of the 13th Parachute Maintenance Company, serving with the 517th Parachute Combat Team. He saw service in the Rome Arno, France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe campaigns. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He attended the Parachute Jump School and the Parachute Riggers School in Fort Benning, Ga.
Besides his wife of 57 years, Mary I. (Walsh), he leaves his children, Leslie A. of Watertown, Beverly E. of Newton, and David of Wilmington; and two grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Robert.
Funeral services were held Aug. 3 in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. |
