Ruth S. Hanson (Slauson) passed away at the age of 80 on June 2, 2006 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband Herbert M. Hanson, daughter Sharman Soeder, grandson Richard Brown, great-grandson Dakota Brown, sister Toni Benedict and nephew Stu Williams.
Ruth was a devoted mother, wife and a friend to anyone in need. She was born in White Plains, NY and married Herb Hanson on September 27, 1947. She actually met her father-in-law-to-be 7 years before meeting her husband-to-be as he was principal of Ruth’s high school alma mater, Scarsdale High School. She attended the Parsons School of Art & Design and was a talented airbrush artist working in advertising and advertising layout.
Herb and Ruth have lived in Scottsdale for 35 years and traveled throughout the free world as Herb's career involved international marketing management. Their 50th anniversary trip included visits to Australia and New Zealand, a gift from their daughter Sharman. Their favorite place of all to visit was a childhood summer home of Ruth’s in the Thousand Islands area between Alexandria Bay, New York and Ganaockqua, Ontario.
Ruth spent 25 years with Markgraf Pharmacy in Scottsdale where she forged many friendships that continue until today. Herb and Ruth also spent a great deal of time in Prescott where Ruth’s family resided for many years. Ruth was an avid reader and a great supporter of the Second Hand Book Store. She will be truly missed but we know she is finally at peace.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, June 7 at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale.
Ruth was a true lover of animals and in lieu of flowers, she would wish a donation be made to the Arizona Humane Society, ATTN: Development Dept., 1521 W. Herbert and Ruth Hanson (formerly Ruth Slavson) of Scottsdale celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 27 with dinner and cocktails.
The Hansons were married Sept. 27, 1947, in Scarsdale, N.Y. They moved to Arizona in 1970.
The couple have one child, Sharman Soeder of Westlake, Ohio.
Herbert Hanson was a sales manager for Hobart Mexicans and is currently a consultant for R&H Consultants Inc. Ruth Hanson was a pharmacy clerk for Markgraf Pharmacy. She retired in 1996. She is president of R&H Consultants.
