According to previous arrangement, Jacob Emanuel Melsom, Esqr., Master of the Norwegian Barque "Karen Elizabeth" and Alette Severine, his wife, both members of the Reformed Lutheran Church, presented for baptism their infant daughter born at sea, on their passage here, near the Island of Cuba.
These parents being professedly believers in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and expressing a confidence in the doctrine of the "Abrahamic Covenant," and having a desire to bring their first born into the pale of that covenant, no reason appeared why the ordinance should be withheld — George Carrick, Esqr., master of the British ship Kelvin, and A. B. Tellessen, Esqr., master of the Norwegian brig Albatros, stood sponsors: and the child was baptized by the name of Antonie Mariana. The occasion was one seemingly of solemn interest to the entire congregation assembled. |
